How God gave me a husband

My freshman year in college I was best friends with my third cousin. In September, third cousin started asking me if I had met my cousin’s roommate. (No I was not related to EVERYONE at the college. :-)) I told him I had not…repeatedly. And every time third cousin would say, “I really think you would like this guy.” I wasn’t interested. There were plenty of guys on campus and I had not had good luck with being set up. That just never seemed to work. Family weekend came along first weekend of October and my family and cousin’s family came to visit. Everyone came to see my dorm room and then we went to go see cousin’s room. I didn’t really want to go. I can’t remember why now, just being a self-centered busy college student I guess. So there we were- all 9 of us- standing in cousin’s dorm room when unsuspecting hubby to be walked in. I remember my sister, we’ll just call her Cheesy, elbowed me and said, “He’s cute, you need to date him!” My mom found out that he spoke French and I was planning on trying to CLEP out of French. She started suggesting that we study French together. Oh dear…

That was Saturday. On Tuesday we went to the campus devotional together. And discovered that he had translated for my grandfather. You see my grandfather went every year to Romania to do mission work. And my hubby at age 14 translated for my grandfather. We still laugh about it because we both know that my grandfather showed us pictures of each other. He was always showing pictures of his grandchildren and he would come back and show us pictures of everyone he had worked with in Romania. We don’t remember seeing the pictures, but we are sure we saw pictures of each other years before we met.

Three weeks into our relationship we both knew that we wanted to get married. Ten months after we met we got married. I am so thankful to God for sending hubby to me. I can’t imagine the last 10 years without him!

White Bean Chili

I enjoy trying new things, especially when I don’t have to cook it the first time. I like to get recipes from friends after eating at their house or a pot luck meal. Then I know that I like it before I go cooking something new. A dear friend brought this when I had baby boy and I thought it was the best soup ever. It is very easy to make and healthy. And you will just have to take my word for it. 🙂

First you saute:

  • 1 Tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion
  • 1 clove garlic minced, I use powder if I don’t have a clove
  • One 7 oz can chopped mild green chilis (this will be with the Mexican food at the grocery)

Saute until the onion is cooked to your liking. Then add the onion/chili mixture to:

  • 3 cans cannellini beans (white kidney beans)
  • 1 cup chicken
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • salt and pepper to taste

Heat over med-low heat until warm, stirring occasionally.  Serves 4-6

Ten and Win

Hey, I wanted to let you all know that you can still enter to win $20,000. You can enter until November 13th at TenandWin.com. You can listen to the story of why Mr. Rundus is giving away $20,000 and what you must do to win it. You have to be able to say the 10 commandments in order from memory within 20 seconds. He also gives some finger motions to help you remember them in order. The original end date for this was October 26th, but his wife had an emergency appendectomy that morning. So learn the Ten Commandments, commit them to memory, enter to win, and good luck God’s blessings on you all!

Baby Boy is ONE!

Baby Boy is one today! I can’t believe how fast time has flown. Time goes faster every child you add.

My prayer for baby boy is that he will love God with all his heart, that he will be an example of God’s great love and grace, and that he will grow in stature and wisdom.

Baby boy in the hospital.

I love his auburn hair and blue eyes. Who knew that could happen?!

Here he is opening his first birthday present! 🙂 Thanks to Aunt L for the package! Everything was a big hit.

Funny Friday

These didn’t all happen today, but I thought I might start telling some of the funny things that happen during my week on Fridays. 🙂

I DID drop my cell phone in the toilet this week. Sorry to all who tried to call and couldn’t get me!

Hubby endorsed the paycheck of another employee at work this week. Sorry Michelle! That is what the white out was about. lol

When we started to sing “This Little Christian Light of Mine” half-pint asked us if we wanted her to pretend to be Satan and blow out everyone’s light! LOL

We enjoy reading. My kids and I read together for a while every day. We read the Bible daily as a family. My husband and I read at night. All that to say, we read a lot! So we decided to make some bookmarks as a craft project that we could all do together. We cut strips of poster board and painted, glued, glittered, and wrapped them up. Then we punched a hole with a hole punch and ran ribbon through the top. Here are some of them.

This week for Bible we are reading about how the Israelites crossed the Red Sea and how the Egyptians didn’t cross the Red Sea…

So we made a little chariot from a half gallon milk carton and some pipe cleaners. I had to remember to buy a half gallon because I don’t have much use for a half gallon normally since we go through 5-6 gallons of milk each week. Baby boy will start drinking milk in a week or so and I am sure we will go through more then. Here is our chariot. Just for the record-I am pretty sure that the Egyptians did NOT have unicorns, but I was the first horse looking thing I found this morning.

Baby boy has learned a new trick- climbing the walls! I know I am going to have to start putting pants on him more often as it is getting cool out, but it is sooooooooooooooooo difficult to get the pants on him. His little thighs and legs are so chunky that I can barely get 18 mos pants on him. Then the 18 mos pants are much too long. I know that the cloth diapers don’t help, but I really do prefer them. And with the health risks of disposables, don’t think I will be switching anytime soon.

And up next is half-pint for her share of the blog time. She colored a beautiful picture of Cinderella and her prince today. Yes, those are the doors to the “rainy day” house  (on the right of the picture) that probably needs to be put back in hiding. The rain is still here, but the girl’s interest in the house is not. I need to go now. Half-pint wants me to read a book to her about Cordur”boy” before her nap time. 🙂

Pumpkin Patch

We went to the pumpkin patch today and I was so excited about all the cute pictures I was going to get of my kids on the hay ride and picking pumpkins and…I forgot my camera. 😦 I was so disappointed. My sister would have been all over it. I really need her here. It was lots of fun. Wish I could show you all.

Baby boy got in the cabinet when we got home. It comes in a close second to the pumpkin patch activities. 🙂

And here are the kids with their pumpkins. WOW! All three smiling.  🙂
